Announcing the new JavaScript API 3.1

By Richard Süselbeck | 12 July 2019

Today we are excited to announce the brand-new version 3.1 of our JavaScript API, which delivers a whole host of new features and capabilities. Let's have a closer look using the magic of the Graphics Interchange Format's Graphics Control Extension (aka "animated GIFs").

First, the maps displayed by our JavaScript API 3.1 are now powered by vector tiles. This means you can now tilt the map, rotate the map and there are no more fixed zoom levels. Look!

In addition, you can now display the 3D extruded buildings you may already be familiar with from our Mobile SDKs. Whoa.

Even more exciting is the ability to customize the look and feel of your maps. Apply any style you like to any feature of the map. You can even do this at runtime! Check this out!

There's even more and we have several blog posts in the works to introduce you to all of the new features soon. In the meantime, have a look at the documentation and examples to get you started.

A quick note on authentication before you get going. The JavaScript API 3.1 uses a new type of API Key, so be sure to go into your projects on the developer portal and create this new key. Your old App ID/App Code credentials will continue to work for the JavaScript API 3.0 and below. Naturally, the JavaScript API 3.1 and all of these exciting new features are all part of your Freemium plan.

Now excuse me while go and tilt around all my maps for no reason whatsoever. Wheeeeee!
