While most people probably think of maps as a reference, we at HERE think of them as tools, and are always working to develop new ways to make maps and location data more helpful to everybody who might need them. But we can’t do that alone, and have empowered our developer ecosystem to build specific solutions for the issues and communities they care most about.

This is why we’re proud to host the HERE Map Data Hackathon, which will reward developers who find impactful, sophisticated, and novel ways to use our latest tool: HERE Data Layers.

HERE Data Layers helps developers create map-based solutions without all the excess noise present in so many maps. Instead of a single cluttered expensive map, we’re offering an a-la-carte type system that lets you purchase only what your map requires, whether that’s just navigable roads, land-use information, or building footprints. Available for nearly seventy cities around the world, Data Layers splits map information into 10 categories that cover over 500 different attributes per city. The map data is provided as GeoJSON format layers which can be used individually or combined for multiple use cases ranging from map display, spatial analytics, business intelligence, and machine learning.

We’re inviting developers to build software solutions using HERE Data Layers and HERE Location Services that help the public, local communities, and businesses to overcome challenges from health and social care, to education, and infrastructure. The hackathon will provide a platform for developers to ideate, experiment, and collaborate.
