Data Lens Developer's Guide

Querying your Datasets

To retrieve data from your datasets, you need to define a 'query' with the Data Lens REST API query language. Queries allow you to aggregate, transform, filter and sort the data before it is consumed by your visualization.

Queries fit into the flow of a visualization design as follows:

  1. An authenticated user uploads a dataset, and remains the dataset owner.
  2. The dataset owner defines a query on the dataset.
  3. The dataset owner requests the results from the query in the visualization app.
  4. The dataset owner publishes the query so that non-authenticated users can request results from the query.

The following sections describe the process of defining and using queries.
