Administrative Divisions

The Administrative Divisions contains the hierarchy (for example Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, United States) and attributes for each administrative area in the HERE Map.


  • Administrative Areas names in various languages and transliterations
  • Postal code information
  • Administrative metadata information like the local currency and language, applicable time zones and daylight-saving time and more.
  • Disputed Area coding is included in the Administrative Places as an alternate administrative structure.
  • The Administrative Divisions structure is constructed based on admin, zone and postal information in the HERE map. The Administrative Areas layer is linked to the Places and Navigable Roads layers by the Administrative Context that is included in each road feature and Place. Type of content included Description
Geometry The geometry of the administrative area, typically as polygonal geometry, but could also be represented as a polyline.
Object Admin ID is the primary map object identifier.
Name The Name(s) applicable to the administrative area.
Attribution Attribution applicable to the administrative area, for example, government code, parent admin id, child admin id, classification of the administrative area, ISO country code, and similar attributes.

Navigable Roads - each Navigable Roads layer has a reference to its corresponding Admin area to denote the City and full admin hierarchy in which the road is located.

Places - each Places layer has a reference to its corresponding Admin area to denote the City and full admin hierarchy in which the Place is located.
