The HERE places food-type system provides a flat reference structure.

Each of the regional groupings (North America, Asian, etc.) contain a number of base food type categories (represented as xxx-000). Some of these base food type categories may also have other variations where applicable.

For example, the Chinese base food type category (201-000) also identifies additional food type variations, such as Szechuan (201-009), Cantonese (201-010) and Hunan/Hubei (201-043).
