Datasets Permissions

This summarizes what actions each role can perform on dataset resources, find out more about the permissions endpoints in the datasets resource guide.

READER on Dataset

A user with role READER on a dataset can:

  • Retrieve metadata (except for permissions) and sample data from the dataset.
  • Create queries on the dataset.
  • Not see other permissions except for who holds the OWNER role.
  • Revoke their own READER permissions on the dataset.

AUTHOR on Dataset

A user with role AUTHOR on a dataset can:

  • Use all READER permissions.
  • See all Queries for the dataset, similar to AUTHOR on all the Queries for that Dataset.
  • Upload data into an empty dataset.
  • Append data to a non-empty dataset.
  • Define and modify the schema of the dataset.
  • Run transformations like geocoding or anchoring on the dataset.
  • Read all dataset permissions.
  • Grant/Revoke the READER role on this dataset to other users.
  • Revoke their own AUTHOR permissions on the dataset.

OWNER on Dataset

A user with role OWNER on a dataset can:

  • Use all AUTHOR permissions.
  • Delete the content of the dataset.
  • Delete the dataset and all queries on it.
  • Delete all Queries for the dataset, similar to OWNER on all the Queries for that Dataset.
  • Grant and revoke any permission to other users.
