Severity Rating

Definition

Severity Rating indicates the severity of an accident blackspot as defined by the European Road Assessment Programme.

0 Unknown
1 High
2 Medium High
3 Medium

Usage

Severity Rating can be used to filter or adjust the level of warning as vehicles approach blackspots.

Specification

  • Only one Severity Rating value is applied for each blackspot.

  • Severity Rating is applied as follows:
    • High - when a blackspot has more than 160 fatal or serious accidents per billion vehicle kilometres (bvkm)
    • Medium/High - when a blackspot has between 121 and 160 fatal or serious accidents per bvkm
    • Medium - when a blackspot has between 80 and 120 fatal or serious accidents per bvkm
