Overpass/Underpass

Definition

Overpass/Underpass indicates that a road goes over/under another road. It can be used for map display as well as to enhance both audible and visual route guidance, such as "Take the overpass". Overpass/Underpass is applied when a change in elevation is perceived when moving over or under another road.

Usage

Overpass/Underpass can be used to enhance both audible and visual route guidance, such as, "Take the overpass".

Rules

  • If a road is flagged as Ramp, then Overpass/Underpass is not applied.

  • If a road is over or under other road(s) for more than two intersections, it is not considered an overpass or underpass.

  • If the driver does not perceive a change in the elevation when moving along the road, even though it may cross over or under another road, Overpass/Underpass is not applied.

  • Overpass/Underpass is independent of any Bridge or Tunnel attribution.
