Vehicle types and measures

For route matching, following vehicle types can be specified:

  • bdouble - Australian truck/trailer type
  • bicycle
  • bus
  • car - passenger car
  • carHOV - high occupancy vehicle (car pool)
  • emergency
  • motorcycle
  • motohome
  • pedestrian
  • roadtrain
  • taxi
  • tractorTruck (semi)
  • truck (rigid)

The vehicle type influences the ETA (driving speed), access to roads, turn restrictions, access to environmental zones and toll cost.

A comma separated list of vehicle types enables all permissions that each of these vehicle types have.

In addition to the vehicle type, a "tollVehicleType" can be specified, to match against the applicable toll cost. Although vehicle type and tollVehicleType are independent parameters they must not be contradicting.

In addition, the car (mostly truck) measures influence the ETA (driving speed), access to roads, turn restrictions, access to environmental zones and toll cost. Following truck measures can be specified:

  • trailerType - caravan, trailer, rvTrailer or boatTrailer, for toll cost and truck/recreationalVehicle restrictions
  • trailersCount - number of trailers, for toll cost and truck restrictions
  • vehicleNumberAxles - number of axles excluding trailers, for toll cost
  • trailerNumberAxles - number of trailer axles, for toll cost
  • hybrid - for toll cost
  • emissionType - for toll cost and environmental zone restrictions
  • height - for truck restrictions and toll cost
  • trailerHeight - for toll cost and truck/recreationalVehicle restrictions
  • trailerWeight - for truck/recreationalVehicle restrictions
  • trailerLength - for truck/recreationalVehicle restrictions
  • disabledEquipped - vehicle equipped to carry disabled people, for toll cost
  • passengersCount - actual number of passengers, for toll cost, see also vehicle type carHOV
  • tiresCount - number of tires, for toll cost
  • commercial - vehicle registered for commercial use, for toll cost
  • shippedHazardousGoods - for toll cost and truck restrictions
  • heightAbove1stAxle - for toll cost
  • length - for truck restrictions and toll cost
  • limitedWeight - actual total weight of vehicle incl. payload and trailers/caravan incl. their payload, for truck restrictions, speed profile, toll cost and environmental zone restrictions, see also vehicleWeight
  • vehicleWeight - actual total weight of vehicle incl. payload, but without trailers' weight or payload (specify by trailerWeight), for toll cost. See also limitedWeight.
  • trailerWeight - actual total weight of trailers with their payload, belongs to vehicleWeight, for toll cost. See also limitedWeight.
  • weightPerAxle - actual total weight per axle, incl. payload, for toll cost and truck restrictions
  • weightPerAxleGroup - actual total weight per single and per tandem axle, incl. payload, for truck restrictions,e.g. single:12;tandem:18. For truck restrictions.
  • width - for truck restrictions
  • tunnelCategory - tunnel categories the truck must NOT use, for truck restrictions
  • fuelType - fuel powering the vehicle, for environmental zone restrictions and toll cost

Truck measures can change during a route, when the truck loads or unloads goods at intermediate waypoints. Hence, measure changes (deltas) can be specified at each waypoint:

  • delta height
  • delta length
  • delta weight
  • delta width
  • delta hazardous goods

For toll cost, slightly different measures are relevant, see section "Toll Cost & Cost Optimize".

For buses following rules apply:

  • Truck speed profiles are used
  • No-through-traffic zones are ignored
  • If there is a separate bus lane then real time traffic and traffic pattern impact is not applied.

For taxis following rules apply:

  • Car speed profiles are used
  • If there is a separate taxi lane then real time traffic and traffic pattern impact is not applied.

For HOV (heavy occupancy vehicles, car pools) following rules apply:

  • Car speed profiles are used
  • If there is a separate HOV lane then real time traffic and traffic pattern impact is not applied.

For emergency vehicles following rules apply:

  • Access and turn restrictions for emergency vehicles are explicitly coded in the map
  • Legal turn restrictions are generally ignored, physical obeyed
  • No-through-traffic zones are ignored
  • Gates are traversed, private roads are used
  • Environmental zone restrictions are ignored
  • Truck restrictions (weight, height…) are obeyed but the generic "no trucks" restrictions are ignored
  • One ways are obeyed unless explicitly defined by parameter &oneway=penalty:0.5 (route against allowed driving direction if benefit > 0.5 sec/meter)
  • Car speed profiles are used

For bicycles following rules apply:

  • Access restrictions for bicycles are explicitly coded in the map
  • Preferred routes for bicycles are explicitly coded in the map
  • One ways opened for bicycles are explicitly coded in the map
  • One ways are obeyed unless explicitly defined by parameter &oneway=penalty:0.125 (route against allowed driving direction if benefit > 0.125 sec/meter)
  • Restrictions (access, turn, through traffic, gates) are obeyed
  • Car speed profiles are used, but the driving speed is limited to 20 kph unless defined by parameter &maxSpeed=15
