Public Transit API Developer's Guide

Station Search

Station Search is used for searching for transit station, either around a given location, by name, by station IDs. The example below shows the station search by name, along with the mandatory parameters required in the request:

  • your authentication credentials, app_id and app_code (see Acquiring Credentials for more details)
  • location coordinates
  • name of the station to be searched.

The example below requests stations that match the name 'New York' around a given set of coordinates.

By default, the following information will be returned:

  • A maximum of 5 transit stations. The number of stations returned can be restricted by the max parameter in the request.
  • Each station will include the information about the station (see Stn for more details):
    • Name, ID, longitude and latitude of the station
    • Distance in meters from the station, available only when querying for stations around you
    • Expected time to reach the station from your current location, available only when querying stations around you
    • If a Next Nearby Departures request can be performed
    • Name of the country where the coordinates specified in the request point to
    • Country code compliant to ISO 3166-1
    • State of the country
    • Postal code
    • District (e.g. 'Mitte' in Berlin)
    • Name of the street, square, boulevard
    • Name of the city closest to the coordinates specified in the request

You can further refine the route results by submitting the requests with these optional parameters:

  • radius parameter specifies a radius in meters that when combined with a centerpoint defines the area of the search
  • method specifies if the name matching is either strict (i.e. has to match exact spelling) or fuzzy
  • max specifies the maximum number of stations/stops included in the response

For a complete set of these parameters see Station Search.
