Share a catalog

When you create a catalog in a platform project, you can make that catalog available for linking to all or specific projects within your organization, and set permissions, such as "read" and "write". You must have the manage permission for the catalog to share the catalog across projects.

Note

This is a two-part process. Once you make the catalog available, a member of the target project will need to link to the catalog.

To share a catalog between platform projects, follow these steps:

  1. On the HERE platform portal, click Data.
  2. Select the project that contains the catalog you want to make available using the project selector in the top right of the screen.
  3. Select the catalog you want to share and click the Availability tab.
  4. Click the Set catalog availability button. Specify the project to which you want to share the catalog or choose to "Make available to all projects in your organization". Specify the permissions to the catalog you want to share, ie "read" and/or "write", and click "Set".
  5. To change the available permissions to a catalog after you have shared it, click the Set catalog availability button. Change the permissions by selecting the desired checkboxes. Note that this will not change the permissions to the catalog for any project that has already linked to the catalog.
  6. To change the available permissions to a catalog for a specific project, select the dropdown in the "Available Permissions" column in the project row, then select the desired options.
  7. To revoke the availability of a catalog after you have shared it to all platform projects in your organization, click the Set catalog availability button. Deselect the "Make available to all projects in your organization" option. However, note that reverting availability of a catalog will not unlink it from a project to which it is already linked.
  8. To revoke the availability of a catalog to a specific project that has already linked to it, find the project on the Availability tab of the catalog, select the three dots to the right of the project, and select Revoke availability.
  9. Note: All of this functionality except for step 8 is also accessible to users with manage access to a catalog in the Projects Manager section of the portal. The steps for these actions via Projects Manager are described in the Identity & Access Management User Guide.

Share a catalog outside of a platform project

You can share catalogs created outside of a project with users, apps, and groups if you have manage permission to the catalog. However we recommend that you create any new catalogs in the context of a project and follow the steps above to share catalogs between projects. This will provide you maximum flexibility as we continue to enhance resource management capabilities in the platform via Projects Manager and associated platform projects functionality.

To share a catalog outside of a platform project, follow these steps:

  1. In the HERE platform portal, click Data.
  2. Select the catalog you want to share.
  3. Click the Sharing tab. If you do not see this tab, you do not have manage permission and cannot share the catalog.
  4. Specify the app, user, or group with whom you want to share the catalog.
  5. Choose the permissions to grant to the app, user, or group:
    • read - Grants the ability to get data and metadata from the catalog.
    • write - Grants the ability to publish data and metadata to the catalog.
    • manage - Grants the ability to change catalog settings, including sharing. Also grants the ability to change the settings of layers in the catalog.
  6. Click Grant.

Warning

All schemas associated with the layers in the catalog will also be shared. The user, app, or group will have read access to these schemas.

This means that the user, app, or group will be able to associate these schemas to newly-created catalogs and to further share it with other apps, users, or groups.
